Comparison of three diffusion encoding schemes for cardiac imaging under free breathing conditions.

چکیده
Background Diffusion cardiac imaging has been challenging due to respiratory and heart motion. Recent developments in cardiac diffusion imaging proposed more robust spin echoes encoding scheme, like Acceleration Motion Correction(AMC)(1), to tackle cardiac motion. In addition, free breathing acquisition with prospective motion correction like slice following technique (2) has been shown to reduce efficiently and significantly the scan time. In this study, the effect of breathing motion on accuracy and precision using AMC, Stjekal-Tanner (Monopolar) and Twice Refocused Spin Echo (TRSE) encoding schemes combined with slice following was evaluated on a moving phantom. In-vivo comparison was achieved in volunteers.

Directions vs. averages: an in-vivo comparison for cardiac DTI
Background The ability to interrogate cardiac microstructure has led to much recent interest in in-vivo cardiac diffusion tensor imaging (cDTI). However, when compared to studies performed in neuro-imaging, very little work has been done to determine the optimal diffusion encoding schemes. Previous work has suggested that accuracy is improved by increasing the number of diffusion encoding direc...
متن کاملRespiratory and cardiac self-gated free-breathing cardiac CINE imaging with multiecho 3D hybrid radial SSFP acquisition.
A respiratory and cardiac self-gated free-breathing three-dimensional cine steady-state free precession imaging method using multiecho hybrid radial sampling is presented. Cartesian mapping of the k-space center along the slice encoding direction provides intensity-weighted position information, from which both respiratory and cardiac motions are derived. With in plan radial sampling acquired a...

متن کاملIn vivo cardiac diffusion tensor imaging in free-breathing conditions
Background The fiber structure of the human heart contributes significantly to efficient ventricular function in the presence of disease. DTI provides a non-invasive approach for the three-dimensional depiction of the myocardial fiber architecture. The biggest problem for in vivo cardiac DTI is the signal loss caused by motion. Recently, to cope with human physiological motion problem, a robust...
متن کاملAnalysis and Design of Higher-Order Motion-Compensated Diffusion Encoding Schemes for In Vivo Cardiac DTI
Introduction: Cardiac diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) [1-3] is increasingly used to characterize myocardial microstructure and myofiber orientation in both normal and diseased hearts. Clinical applications of the technique in humans have been made feasible by employing either STEAM [4] or bipolar diffusion encoding [5] in conjunction with acquisition during the quiescent phase of the cardiac cyc...
